A lot is still up for grabs for Wissahickon, Upper Dublin and pw tuesday afternoon, as well. Currently, the cardinals are 10-1 and in first place in the division, with both the Trojans and Colonials one behind at 9-2. Wissahickon hosts Cheltenham tuesday afternoon. If the Trojans should win, then they become huge pw fans for a day. If the Trojans win and then the colonials defeat ud at lulu cc, then all three teams would be 10-2 in the league, with Wissahickon winning the tiebreaker and the leagues team berth book at districts. Of course, should the cards beat pw, the Upper Dublin would win it alone at 11-1. Now, a third scenario would have pw winning the league, should Wissahickon falter against the panthers and the colonials defeat ud by enough strokes to win the two-team tiebreaker. (Tuesday) is just as important to me as this was, carber said.
As of last week, wissahickon had three of the top four handicap differentials in the league, with Hunsicker on top, Griffin second and Kumar fourth, only herr breaking the logjam in third. Playing with Zach is very intimidating, Griffin said. He was 3-under through four (holes). Its fun to play with good players. Herr and his cr north teammates won the wild card portion of Mondays event, as well, the Indians top four scores totaling 323. Pennsbury finished second at 328, beating Neshaminy in a tiebreaker for that second spot. Wissahickon was fourth at 329. This is important as North can win the national Conference title on tuesday. If that happens, then Pennsbury will be the fourth sol team to make the district team Championship next Wednesday.

The conditions were really wet, which made it difficult, carber said, but I was fortunate to be in the first group with Zach Herr and Jalen and. We had a pretty big crowd, which helped us find some balls. Both Griffin and Carber shot 81s at Indian Valley last year, each having also qualified for districts. This year, 40 players shooting 86 or better qualified for next weeks District One golf Championships, to be played tuesday and Wednesday at Turtle Creek. Locally, 12 players made the cut.
Along with Griffin and Carber, Upper Merions ryan Estock shot an 80 to finish tied for eighth overall and third in the American Conference; Wissahickons Jesse hunsicker, carter field from pw and North Penns Kush Jituri all posted 81s to tie for 12th; Rishab writing Kumar. I was 37 on the back nine but then I shot a 44 on the front, said Jituri, a junior for the Knights who started his round on the par-4 ninth hole at ivcc. I had a real bad hole. I thought I could shoot around mid-70s before that one hole. This is really competitive. It plan has been quite a season for Griffin and all the Trojans.
All I started doing then was taking what their instructors were saying and work it harder. My job became more psychological, a lot of course management. It may all add up to back-to-back state titles that would validate the mustangs as a state power. That would be a big accomplishment, walker said. I dont think that happens too often. Thats what were trying.
Franconia jalen Griffin was only a freshman at Wissahickon High last year when he burst on the high school golf scene, becoming one of the top players for the Trojans during the season, then advancing through the league tournament to districts and then to regionals. This year, the wily old sophomore knows what to expect from each round of the individual competitions. Monday at the suburban One league boys Golf Championship, Griffin played in one of the marquee groups at Indian Valley country Club. The weather was fairly nice for recent days, but the course was still soggy from the weekend rain. Griffin, who has added considerable length to his game as he has aged, shot a 4-over-par 76 Monday, winning the suburban One American Conference Individual Championship and finishing third overall. Advertisement, i think i played pretty well, said Griffin, who posted nines of 39-37 after starting on the first hole. I had a really bad start, was 3-over through two. In his foursome, that had him trying to play catch-up as playing partner Zach Herr of council Rock north was 3-under after four holes, herr ending up at even-par 72 to win the overall event and the national Conference crown. The other two members of this foursome, upper Dublins Andrew Carber and.

The program is so advanced that next years team could be even better, with sophomore. Barry McDonnell taking the spot of boulch, the only senior on this years team. Boulch and sophomore Spence Schultz, the mustangs. 4 player, emerged to complement the super Trio. Spence and Ben went from high-70s shooters to par shooters in one year, Frantz said. Over the years, Frantz has become more a facilitator than hands-on coach, because most of his players have their own personal teaching pros. In the early 2000s, we got really good because a lot of guys went to somebody else the year-round, he said.
Hes an easy kid to get along with, touchberry said. He came from a big high school in writing Pennsylvania, hes used to socializing. It appears, not unlike manatee high football and Sarasota high baseball, outstanding golfers like miller are gravitating to lakewood Ranch because of its reputation. Riverview coach, john Sprague said the lakewood Ranch program, like riverview did in the 1980s with Bent Tree and Misty Creek, is benefiting from the proliferation of country club communities, where new houses are attracting families with outstanding young golfers. Millers family bought a house in The concession. Still, according to Frantz, the arrival of touchberry and Walker as freshmen in 2010, elevated the ranch program to elite status. They were very accomplished players who had been playing since they were 5 years old, Frantz said.
- and a second-place finish in American Junior Golf Association tournaments on his resume, the mustangs have three golfers who can play for any high school in the country. Ben boulch, the. 5 player, won the 2a-district 13 individual championship. Its probably one of the best high school teams in the nation, miller said. Not many high school teams, first, have players who play in (national) individual tournaments and, second, finish well in them. Touchberry said Miller fits right in and there are no clashing of egos.
Thats how the mustangs defending fhsaa class 2A state online champions, and the areas golf superpower, tuned up for Mondays Region 5 victory that catapulted lakewood Ranch to its third straight state tournament, set for tuesday and Wednesday in tavares. Theyre really actually all goofballs, Frantz said. But they love each other and thats what its about. The mustangs have beaten 112 teams, eight more than they did when they went undefeated last year en route to the schools first state golf title. Under Frantz, in his 14th season at lakewood Ranch, the mustangs have been to the state tournament seven times since 2001. The mustangs could have been playing for their third straight state title, but finished six strokes behind Spruce Creek in the 2010 state tournament. Part of it was just lack of experience from everybody on the team in 18-hole events, Frantz said. But not this season. Sarasota, as, danny walker s practice round drive off the 11th tee started to hook, teammate. Ramsey touchberry knew what was coming next. Listen, listen, touchberry told his three teammates and lakewood Ranch head coach. Walkers drive kept sailing, 260 yards, in the direction of pine trees and an adjacent condominium at Heritage oaks country Club. Touchberry figured the ball was destined for a tree, a house, a grill, a window. Sure enough, the next sound proposal was a crackling of the ball smashing its way through pine branches. The condominium was spared. The ball came to rest under the tree and the round continued. A few holes later, senior, ben boulch chased a half-submerged 10-foot alligator into a pond, just as he had a five-foot alligator several holes earlier.
